Come participate in a specialized ceramic technique demonstration and workshop. This technique was developed by Christine Hudson ten years ago at the Center for Contemporary Ceramics at Cal State Long Beach.  “Folding Paper Porcelain” is a way to fold extremely thin slabs of porcelain into translucent forms. Participants will be able to experience an in-depth demonstration of the technique and at the end of the workshop be able to glaze a sample of the small translucent porcelain that will be fired the night of the workshop.

About the Artist

Artist Christine Hudson

Christine Hudson is an artist that works in ceramics, sculpture, performance and installation. Their art situates personal narrative as an entry point to integrate discussions of community, care, resistance, and resilience. Their utilization of objects and space investigate the ways visual language can be employed as a powerful tool for archiving histories that are often erased, overlooked, or rendered silent. By highlighting the subtle tensions between the varying degrees of visibility, their practice imagines a rethinking of what preserving these marginalized untold stories entails, creating a space for healing, remembrance, and empowerment. These explorations prompt viewers to reflect on the enduring influence of history and traditions on our lives and collective consciousness.
