About the Artist

Sydney Mieko King (b. San Francisco, CA) is an artist working in photography, sculpture, and video. She seeks new ways of imaging the body and its trace, engaging in continued material exploration through her process. King builds cameras out of bedrooms and foamcore boxes, photographs on three-dimensional surfaces, creates plaster molds of her body, and casts paper screens for video projection.

Her work has been shown at the International Center of Photography Museum, Huxley-Parlour Gallery, François Ghebaly Gallery, the Broodthaers Society, the Dean Collection, Chashama, the Lewis Center for the Arts, and others. She has been in-residence at the Yale Norfolk School of Art, Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Recess Art, and BRIClab.

King was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Art and Archaeology in 2017. She is the recipient of a 2021 En Foco Fellowship, Innovate Grant, and a 2021 Aperture x Creator Labs Photo Fund award. King received her MFA in Photography from the Yale School of Art in 2023 and was awarded the John Ferguson Weir Prize.
