Zundel Collection:
From the Ancient World to the Silk Road
Exhibition Statement
The SMA presented a collection of art and artifacts gifted to the museum by the late W. Paul Zundel. Mr. Zundel was born and raised in Medford, Oregon but spent his adult life working in the Southwest and traveling the world as a geologist. This collection includes beautiful examples of Asian ceramics, scrolls, paintings and wood-block prints, as well as Samurai weaponry and finely executed manuscripts and calligraphy. Along with these exquisite pieces, the exhibition featured objects from Tibet, fine illuminated manuscript pages from Persia (Iran), and Egyptian artifacts of carved sandstone and rare cedar.
