Recent Additions to the Permanent Collection
Exhibition Statement
The Permanent Collection of the Schneider Museum numbered around 500 objects in 2009 that were assembled over the past 20 years, and the items in the exhibition were recent acquisitions. All the works came to the museum as gifts, underscoring the generosity of supporters through the years.
The Schneider Museum of Art utilizes the collection for research and study by students in the museum classes, as an exhibition resource in the SMA, and as an outreach vehicle for serving audiences in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
The show featured recent additions to the collection:
Colette and Jerry Coleman contributed the works by Roberto Matta, Victor Vasarely, Kathe Kollwitz and Lynn Chadwick among other prints and works on paper.
Ms. Elizabeth Arine Jones has lived in Ashland for nearly 20 years, during which time she was able to audit classes and attend OLLI. As a way of saying ‘thanks’ and demonstrating her love of SOU, she decided to gift the SMA a work by famed French Fauve artist Maurice Vlaminck.
SMA’s curator Josine Ianco Starrels has also graced the museum with her generosity. The daughter of Marcel Janco, founder of Zurich Dada almost 100 years ago, Josine gave the SMA a wonderful tapestry and suite of prints produced by her father, along with works by Southern California artists Lita Albuquerque, Robert Cumming, Bruce Richards, Linda Schaefer and William Giles.
